Frank Playing Guitar
Clifton, Colorado ~ 2012
Oil on Canvas
30" x 24"
Frank Moore was diagnosed with NF when he was two years old. Frank’s childhood was filled with countless surgeries, mostly to reduce the excess tissue that was deforming his leg and foot. His leg was eventually amputated in 1992. By the age of six, Frank started developing a rather large tumor on the left side of his face, which was not successfully removed until he was in his late 20’s. He also developed tumors which engulfed 90% of his body as he entered adulthood. They still continue to grow.
Living with NF is not easy for Frank. It is not easy to live with a disfiguring condition that is not how we are “supposed” to look in order to be accepted. However, Frank is now in a place in his life where he can look in the mirror and accept what he sees. To quote him: “I am a unique individual who is happy NOT to be just another face in the crowd! It all boils down to loving oneself.”
Frank has found strength and peace in the healing properties of music. He plays the guitar and enjoys the feeling of pure relaxation.
